Noise problem

What happens when everyone has access to everything?

The tools have never been better. That's also the problem.

The distance between having an idea and producing something that looks designed has collapsed to almost nothing. Anyone can generate a brand identity in an afternoon. Anyone can ship a website by Friday. The barrier to entry is gone, and the internet is overflowing.

The noise is deafening.

When everything is accessible, the default becomes the average. Trends move faster because tools make them easier to execute - and because everyone is using the same tools, everything starts to look like everything else. Scroll any portfolio site for ten minutes and you'll see the same type treatment, the same colour palette, the same motion language, repeated endlessly by people who learned to use the tool before they learned to have a point of view.

This isn't a criticism of the tools. It's a criticism of what happens when craft gets skipped.

The tool doesn't know why. It doesn't know why this typeface and not that one, why this brand needs to be quieter than the category, why the first render is never the right answer. It executes. The thinking still has to come from somewhere, and thinking is the part that can't be automated - not because the technology isn't there, but because the judgement required to make a decision and stand behind it is built from years of getting things wrong.

The studios that will matter in the next decade aren't the ones with the best tool stack. They're the ones who know when to put the tools down and trust their intuition.
